Dear Alumni,

I am writing to tell you the very sad news that our dear colleague Yoshiko Sato died on Sunday, February 5 after a long illness.  Yoshiko joined GSAPP’s faculty in 1999 and ran the JAPAN Lab-SEARC.  Teaching here was a very important part of Yoshiko’s life, as she was of ours.  It allowed her to fulfill her lifelong pursuit to repair the world through design and passion for exploring design in a world beyond ours.  Her groundbreaking work in this field led to collaborations with NASA, international scientists, engineers, artists and others around the globe.

Yoshiko’s funeral services will be private; those wishing to honor her may donate to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Condolences can be sent to her husband and partner, Michael Morris, at:
Morris Sato Studio
219 East 12th Street, 1st Fl.
New York, New York 10003

We want to recognize Yoshiko’s contribution to our school and will let everyone know when arrangements for this have been confirmed.  She will be very much missed.
