The 2026 Fitch Colloquium, Preserving Independence: Architecture and Heritage in Western Africa, explores contemporary preservation practices in western Africa and the ways they have grappled with the architectural and cultural legacies of independence and decolonization. Learn more about the event here.

This year’s fitch colloquium is organized in conjunction with MoMA’s exhibition on western African architecture, bringing together preservationists, architects, historians, planners, archaeologists, curators, and cultural leaders to reflect on the past, present, and future of preservation in western Africa.

*Campus access still requires a QR code, so those wanting to register via eventbrite and receive a QR code, please do so by today! Columbia Alumni with an active UNI can register to receive a same day QR code the morning of the event. For more information about same day alumni access, click here.

Fall Party Highlights &  Thank You
Thank you to everyone who attended the Preservation Alumni Fall Party! It was an honor to present Roz Li with our Preservation Leadership Award. You can also see and support her work with Bakás Pilipinas Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to preserving historic architecture and sites in the Philippines, where she continues her work as a visiting lecturer fostering historic preservation throughout the country. We would also like to congratulate our student Fitch Writing Prize winner, Lindsay Johnson.

We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to connect with decades of Columbia Historic Preservation alums. If you would like to continue to support our ability to host events like this and offer discounted memberships to current students, please consider donating to Preservation Alumni here.
