Call for Posters: Keeping History Above Water, Newport, RI - April 10-13, 2016
In April 2016, the Newport Restoration Foundation will host KEEPING HISTORY ABOVE WATER, a national conference on sea level rise and historic preservation, in Newport, RI. A broad range of issues will be addressed, both theoretical and practical, in relation to the current and future risks that coastal communities with historic built environments are facing. Over four days, experts in historic preservation architecture, engineering, climate science, and many other disciplines, from across the United States and abroad, will convene to examine threats, explore solutions, and share ideas.
The Program Committee invites proposals for poster presentations (see attached for specifications) of projects related to the conference themes from graduate students and emerging professionals (with no more than three years from completion of study), individuals or groups. This call is open, but not limited, to the fields of historic preservation, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, oceanography, environmental studies, earth sciences, economics, sociology, architectural history, and cultural heritage.
A complete proposal must include:
1. A single page with your name and affiliation, email address, title of the poster, and abstract of 300 words or less, describing the project that your poster will illustrate. The abstract should present a thesis or argument and a summary of the poster content.
2. CV of no more than two pages that details relevant experience.
3. Budget for travel to and from Newport, RI, if you would like to be considered for a travel stipend.
All of the above should be sent as attachments in a single email to: Kelsey@newportrestoration.org
All proposals must be submitted on or before February 15, 2016. More information available here.
